FAMILY PLUS Update - March 10

Hey everyone!

I hope that through these emails you've been able to have some meaningful conversation with your kids.  This week God hit me hard with the fact that our time with our kids is fleeting. The only thing that will last is the memories we create and conversations we have. My prayer for my time with my son is that I take advantage of that short time I have with him. This is what I'm going to be praying for you and your family this week too.

This week your kids will be focusing their attention on baptism!

Scripture: Matthew 3 - The story of Jesus' baptism

Life Application: I can know God wants people to be baptized after they become Christian.

Memory Verse:  Matthew 3:17 “And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

Often  when I counsel with children about salvation they equate baptism with salvation. They often say something like this, "I want to get baptized so I can be with God." This week is a great time to make sure that is clear, especially since we talked about salvation last Sunday. I try to always emphasize that baptism doesn't get us to Heaven. It's a way that we obey God and tell the world what we believe. Believing in Jesus is the only way that God saves us from our sin.

This week ask your kids to explain baptism to you. (On a side note, kids love to talk about baptism because it is a tangible experience that they have witnessed. I believe this is why they equate it with salvation.) During this time of explanation you could talk to them about what it means. Maybe you could ask them to show you how it is done. I had a good friend that baptized a Barbie to explain baptism to her children. Also, you could show your kids different baptism videos on Youtube (I provided a couple different examples below). My experience with your kids is that they love videos. Use that to your advantage to get the conversation rolling.

Please feel free ask any questions or let me know of any breakthroughs you have had! I want to celebrate with you!
